Saying Goodbye The love and joy that our pets provide is priceless. The pain
and sadness we feel when a pet dies is overwhelming. Children's tears, loneliness at the loss of our companion and
family heartache consume us. Whether the animal was our sole
companion or a member of our family, we grieve deeply at their
loss. Funeral services for our pets give us a sense of
peace and help keep our beloved friend forever in our
hearts. |
I have been providing pastoral care at the time of euthanasia
and burial for 25 years. Thoughtful appropriate liturgies at these
sad times include prayers, poems, and eulogies by family members.
Services can include Christian, Jewish, or non-sectarian prayers
according to your spiritual wishes. "Ask of the beasts
and they will teach you the beauty of the earth." Saint Francis Of Assissi |

"Recently, my beloved dog Lilly died; I was heart-broken.
I called the Rev. David James and asked that he officiate at her
burial in the pet cemetery. The prayers were dignified, appropriate
and meaningful. Rev. James' presence was a great comfort." ~J. Turkel "Whether we're Rich or Poor, a
Success or a Flop, Famous
or Unknown, Beautiful or Homely, our
pets love us like we're the last person on
earth." David

Dear Reverend James: Thank you so much for listening to my
concerns and for responding to my question. You brought tears to my
eyes! Such a beautiful sentiment..."we have shared a divinely
inspired love." We did honor Molly today as we celebrated her life
and gave thanks for the gift of her presence in our lives. We used
your outline for your pet funerals as a guide. Thanks again for
taking the time to respond to my need. Though the physical act of
letting go of my dear friend was very hard, I know that she was
already in the arms on God. Take care and God Bless, Laura |

"Dear Reverend
James; Thank for the beautiful funeral service you presided over
for our beloved dog, best friend, and esteemed family member,
Drina. Please know that you turned the day we were dreading most
into a day of peace, hope and comfort. Words can never express our
gratitude to you for making this final earthly event in Drina's
life, the special, spiritual tribute she deserved. May God bless
you always." Sincerely, ~Dale Kolarek |
"Dear
Reverend James; We would like to thank you again for taking the
time to provide a funeral service for Gizmo in such short
notice. Although the pain over his death remains, your presence
made it easier for us to say our final farewell to the baby of the
family. We believe that without you, the burial would have been
very difficult and cold. Your inspiring words brought warmth and
comfort to all. Thank you. Sincerely, ~Sylvia-Yvette Rosa" |

Dear Rev. James: Thank
you so much for the beautiful service for Picasso. It makes me feel
so much better when I think back to all you said. Thank God there
are people out there like you who understand how much people love
their pets. I know he is in a better place and I will see him
again. Thanks for putting him in The Garden of St. Francis where he
belongs. Seeing that gets me through this tough time. Jennifer

Will My Pet Go To
Heaven? The Bible doesn't tell us
if our pets go to heaven or not. but it does have words of comfort
for those who love animals. The Bible tells us that animals are
important to God. God created every living creature in the sea and
on the land and called them good. In the story of Noah and
the flood God chose to save the animals as well as the
people. We are told that God makes covenants with the creatures and
gave instruction for the care of animals in the laws of Moses. God
even allowed the law to be broken to save an animal in trouble. God
entrusted the care of the beasts to human beings but God still owns
them and cares for them. The animals, for their
part, participate with human beings in praising God and are
included in descriptions of the new heaven and the new earth. The
Bible shows its respect for animals by referring to Jesus as the
"Lion of Judah" or "Lamb of God" and suggests that all creation,
human and non-human, awaits the redemption of the body and will be
delivered from corruption. |

Dear Rev.
James: I wanted to
let you know how much we appreciated your prayers, kind words, and
heartfelt advice at the service for our cat Alex. We have both been
in a state of shock since Alex died and were really dreading the
cremation process. We were not sure what was going to happen or if
we were doing the right thing in cremating Alex. Your presence was
a great comfort and helped us feel more comfortable about Alex's
send off. He was such a
very important part of our lives for over 20 years and we were glad
that you were able to help him go to God in such a wonderful,
thoughtful and dignified manner. May God bless you in your
continued work with pets and their "parents". Debbie and Brian Keating |
THINGS WE CAN LEARN FROM A DOG |
 |
-
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
-
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
-
When it's in your interest, practice obedience.
-
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
-
Take naps and stretch before rising.
-
Run, romp and play daily.
-
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm. Stop when you've had enough.
-
Be loyal!
-
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

Never pretend to be something you're not.
-
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
-
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
-
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
-
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
-
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
-
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
-
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
-
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and make friends.
