PET TALES
For people who have loved and lost a pet.
Your favorite chair is vacant now
No eager purrs to great me
No softly padded paws to run
Ecstatically to meet me.
No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
Will say it’s time for feeding,
I’ve put away your bowl
And all the things you won’t be needing.
But I will miss you little friend
For I could never measure
The happiness you brought to me
The comfort and the pleasure.
And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow
I’m sure there’ll be a place for you
In heaven’s bright tomorrow.

Pet Tales
For people who have loved and lost a pet
Is there a place in heaven
Where dog companions go?
Before I’d want to go there
I’d really need to know.
A being pure of spirit
And a being without sin
Is surely one that should be there
But does God let him in?
The theologians argue
A soul is what they lack
But one who’s always there for you
Should be given something back.
I could not face eternity
Without paws and tails
And if that’s what religion thinks
Then that is where it fails.
I hope God doesn’t let me down
I’m sure He knows their worth
For we who have been loved by them
Have Heaven here on earth.

Pet Tales
For people who have loved and lost a pet
A house, a yard, a picket fence,
A place to make one proud
And yet, upon the door a sign
That reads, “No pets Allowed”
A row of stores, all different kinds,
A bustling hustling crowd,
On each and every door a sign
That reads, “No pets allowed”
It may not seem so much to you,
But my thoughts scream out loud-
With so much love and loyalty,
How come no pets allowed.
To me a pet means happiness,
The sunlight through a cloud,
How poor indeed, are people when,
There are no pets allowed.
When my time comes to leave this world
To join the heavenly crowd,
I’ll gladly stay outside the gates
If there are, “No pets allowed.”

Pet Tales
For people who have loved and lost a pet
On sleepless nights my cats cuddle close to me, The purr can be heard above the stillness of the darkness.
A song of comfort that one would hear only in God’s presence in an isolated church.
A purr which calms the storm of the world
Which brings peace to the troubled,
Which gives rest to the weary,
Which consoles the distressed,
W hich settles the anxious,
and brings love to the lonely.
I believe with a purr such as this,
My cats come to me
Straight from God.
